One of the most popular drivers in IndyCar since his debut in 2011, Hinchcliffe is a six-time race winner—claiming victories with both Andretti Autosport and Schmidt Peterson Motorsports. In 2015, he survived a life-threatening crash during practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, making a remarkable comeback to secure pole position for the 100th running of the Indy 500 in 2016.

Hinchcliffe earned his first IndyCar win in 2013 on the streets of St. Petersburg. That season, he added two more victories—one in São Paulo with a dramatic last-corner pass on Takuma Sato, and another at Iowa Speedway, the first of his two wins at that track.
