2015 Alonso / Button Race Used McLaren MP4-30 F1 Akebono Brake Caliper

This Akebono front caliper comes from the 2015 McLaren MP4-30 as driven by F1 World Champions Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso. McLaren is the only F1 team to use Japanese brake manufacturer Akebono on their cars. This very unique and hard to come by item is a marvel of modern machining, being made from a solid block of aluminum lithium alloy. The six piston caliper grips down on the pad to make contact with the brake rotor when the driver applies upwards of 125kg of non-assisted pressure to the brake pedal. When the brakes are fully depressed, it can slow the car down from 320kph in mere seconds, generating a staggering +5gs of force and causing the the discs to glow red, even in daylight, from the 1000 degree Celsius disc temps. To deal with these high temps the caliper has been drilled and cut out as much as possible, to aid cooling as well as with weight reduction, lending to it's skeletonized, futuristic look, as if it came from the movie Alien rather than a race car!!
