2008 Dario Franchitti Arizona / Talladega Used Chip Ganassi Racing Nascar Helmet
Original worn helmet from Motorsport legend Dario Franchitti.
After many successful years in CART/IndyCar racing Dario Franchitti finally got the IndyCar Series Championship title and also the Indy 500 win in 2007 for the Andretti Green Racing team. At seasons end, an unexpected move to Nascar racing and Franchitti was signed for Chip Ganassi Racing with a full season the Nascar Cup Series as well as part time in the second tier Nationwide Series.
This helmet was used in round 8 and 9 of that seasons cup series events at Arizona and also at Talladega. In the latter Franchitti's car suffered a right rear tire failure resulting in an ankle fracture and the Scotsman was sidelined for the race and subsequently 4 more rounds. He would return for Round 14 at Pocono before Sponsorship troubles meant the defending IndyCar and Indy 500 Champion was out of a full time Cup Series ride. His best result of the season came in the Nationwide Series where he started on Pole and finished 5th.
A trip to IndyCar's 2008 Detroit race at Belle Isle sparked a fire inside Franchitti for a return to open wheel and he quickly signed for Chip Ganassi's IndyCar team for 2009 replacing fellow Brit Dan Wheldon. The Dario Franchitti and Chip Ganassi Racing combo quickly became something legendary winning IndyCar Championship in 2009, 10 and 11 to add to his Rolex 24 win plus Thirteen IndyCar race wins including two at the Indy 500 in 2010 and 2012.
Franchitti is a known collector of memorabilia and kept most of his items from his career, making this one a very rare opportunity to own something special from his stint in Nascar.
This helmet has been hand signed on the Visor and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
