2006 René Arnoux Race Used OMP GP Masters Suit
This beautiful OMP suit was worn by French F1 legend René Arnoux during his time racing in the Grand Prix Master Series. The GP Masters series was made up of retired F1 greats such as the likes of Nigel Mansell, Emerson Fittipaldi, Riccardo Patrese, Andrea de Cesaris and Derek Warwick to name just a few.
René Arnoux had 165 starts in F1 resulting in 7 wins, 18 poles, 22 podiums and 12 fastest laps. In 1978 he entered F1 with the Martini team which ran out of funds mid season luckily he was able to finish out the season driving a few races with the Surtees team. The '78 season of driving in poorly performing teams failed to attract attention of the top teams but did enough to get him signed with Renault for 1979. This was the season that made Rene famous for his fantastic fight with Gilles Villeneuve for second place in the French GP. That battle goes down as one of the best in F1 history and is still often referenced even to this day. Arnoux stayed with Renault up until the end of the 1982 season scoring 4 wins, 11 podiums and 12 fastest laps during his tenure at the team.
1983 saw him join Ferrari which would see him enjoy his best year in F1 grabbing 3 wins, 4 poles, 7 podiums. These great results had in him contention for the title but a dnf in the last race, resulted in him slipping to 3rd in the Drivers Championship. His aggressive driving style enamoured him with the Tifosi, that same style that helped Ferrari net the Constructors Championship that year. René stayed with Ferrari until they parted ways during the 1985 season. Arnoux finished his F1 career with 4 seasons in Ligier. In his last race he in Australia, the drivers where allowed a 30 minute extra setup time as the race was going to be a wet one and no one was set up for it. He was second in that wet practice, just behind a certain rain master by the name of Ayrton Senna.
