1999 marked Giancarlo Fisichella’s second season with the Mild Seven Benetton Formula 1 team, and he began the year in impressive form. Across the opening six races, Fisichella recorded four top-five finishes, highlighted by a second place podium at the Canadian Grand Prix.

Fisichella would shortly go on to claim his first Formula 1 victory at the dramatic 2003 Brazilian Grand Prix while driving for Jordan Ford. He later added victories at the 2005 Australian Grand Prix and 2006 Malaysian Grand Prix with Renault. By the end of his Formula 1 career, Fisichella had accumulated 3 Grand Prix victories and 19 podium finishes across 14 seasons.
