Throughout his six year Champ Car career, Cristiano da Matta competed in 101 races, recording 12 victories, 20 podium finishes, and seven pole positions.
In 2000, the same year as this replica, da Matta joined PPI Motorsports for his second full season in the championship. He quickly found success, earning a victory at Chicago Motor Speedway and finishing 10th in the overall standings.
The Brazilian driver reached the height of his Champ Car career in 2002 with Newman/Haas Racing. Driving the Toyota powered Lola B02/00, da Matta delivered a dominant season with seven victories and three second place finishes on his way to winning the CART FedEx Championship Series title. His outstanding performance earned him a full time Formula 1 seat with Toyota for the 2003 season.
