1989 John Morton IMSA Can Am Autographed Race Worn Helmet
John Morton has to be counted as one of the most versatile drivers in racing history. With rides ranging from 427 Cobras to Can-Am, Formula 5000, Indy cars and IMSA GTP, Morton had a career most pro race drivers only dream about. That career included competing at Le Mans nine times, driving Ferraris and Porsches and the Mazda-powered Lola 616 prototype which he had his first great success at the famed 24-hour road race.
This helmet was used in 1989 by Morton while driving one of the Cunningham Racing Nissan 300ZX’s in the IMSA GT Series. It can also be see being worn when Morton test drove the Shelby Can Am Prototype 02 at Willow Springs in 1989.
The white helmet has a red panel that surrounds the eyeport; there are three blue bands that are sectioned into quadrilaterals that run around the middle. At the back of helmet in the top wider band, is Morton’s name. There is some protection tape (surgical?) to the top of the helmet. It still has its original radio still installed and it comes personally signed by John Morton
This helmet was part of the Ron Burton Collection.
