This Bell helmet was worn by popular IndyCar driver Mike Mosley. At the time the California native may have been the least known, but most respected IndyCar driver of the 1970s and 1980s. Slight of build, Mike did not look formidable until he was at speed and very few were quicker on oval tracks. During his sixteen-year career, he had three wins, once at Milwaukee, at Phoenix and then at Trenton. On two occasions, at Phoenix and again at Milwaukee, he would storm from last to first. The latter win came in 1981 and would be Dan Gurney's team's final IndyCar triumph. Sadly Mosley lost his life in a highway accident in 1984 at the young age of 38.

This helmet was worn by Mosley during the 1980 CART IndyCar season. At the time he was driving for Dan Gurney’s All American Racers team. It was during this year that Gurney and his team experimented with the new Indy Eagle ground effects car. Mosley drove the Teddy Yip Theodore Racing sponsored car at four races. He also drove one race during the season for the Mach I Racing team. Due to the extensive wear & tear (scars/chips) to the helmet, we would say that it would have been worn at many of the events that Mosley drove in that season. It was also used at Indianapolis and its USAC tech sticker is still present. Its metallic red base color has a wide orange, edged in white & black, chevron pointed band running from the back ending just above the eyeport. There's a Bell oval sticker on the top front and a Valvoline sticker on the left cheek. Its tinted visor has a fluorescent orange paper sun strip on it that has Mosley’s name printed on it.

This is a rare chance to own a helmet used by one of the most popular drivers of his era.

The helmet comes with a Certificate Of Authenticity.
