Ultra rare Johnny Rutherford Bell Star helmet from when he drove for McLaren in the 1978 IndyCar Season. The helmet can be seen at the Indy 500 and comes complete with the USAC tech sticker (which was applied only at Indy). 

After clinching two Indy 500 victories for the McLaren team in 1974 & 76, "Lone Star JR" had another successful season in 1978 scoring 7 podiums including 2 race victories at Michigan and Phoenix. 

The helmet was also used in the 1979 season where a second USAC tech sticker was applied at Indy and the Budweiser sponsorship to match his newly sponsored McLaren. In 79 Rutherford used a Simpson helmet for most of the season but can be seen using a Bell helmet a few times including the Watkins Glen race. He picked up two wins again with back to back victories at the twin 125 races at Atlanta.

A year later he would cement his career in history by winning his third Indianapolis 500 as well as that season's IndyCar series championship.
