1911 Ray Harroun Signed Vintage Indycar Postcard
A very rare, vintage period postcard that features a sepia image of Ray Harroun, the winner of the very first Indianapolis 500. Harroun had the nickname the "Little Professor" for his pioneering work in creating, along with Howard Marmon, the ‘Marmon Wasp’ which was a revolutionary design at the time, being the very first open-wheel single-seat race car. During the race he would also introduce another innovation, the very first rear-view mirror. Harroun, who came out of retirement to enter the event, went on to win the 500-mile race with the average speed of 74.602 miles per hour (120.060 km/h) and a time of 6 hours 42 minutes and 8 seconds. Harroun immediately re-retired and would not race again after his 1911 victory.
The postcard has the image of Harroun sitting behind the steering wheel of the Marmon Wasp, with the aforementioned rear-view mirror on full display. What makes this postcard extra special is that it has been personally signed by Ray Harroun in ballpoint pen. It is in excellent condition for its age but does have a vertical fold crease running through its middle. The back of the card is blank.
The postcard card comes with a full Certificate Of Authenticity.
