Entering the last race of the season Hamilton was level on points, but with Verstappen ahead in the standings by virtue of his greater win tally. At the deciding race in Abu Dhabi, Verstappen overtook Hamilton on the final lap of the race, denying Hamilton his eighth title, a situation that is still being debated to this day.
