Mercedes was taking a different approach than most other manufacturers when pairing the young German drivers Michael Schumacher, Heinz-Harald Frentzen, and Karl Wendlinger (Austrian) with veteran teammates such as Jochen Mass, Mauro Baldi and Jean-Louis Schlesser. The mix of young raw talent and experience paid off as the team would see success with many victories including the 1989 Le Mans 24 hours and two world championships in 1989 and 1990.
Schumacher would pick up victories in the season's final race in both 1990 in Mexico and 1991 in Japan. That later season would also see Schumacher make his F1 debut in the Jordan at the Belgium Grand Prix. The rest is history as Schumacher would go on to win 7 World titles in F1 and break almost every record in the books.
