2008 Duree Le Claire Bonneville Salt Flats Record Worn Helmet
Helmet used by Salt Flats record holder, car builder and car restorer Duree Le Claire. A veteran of running and building land speed record and race cars, Le Claire captured and broke the standing record for the Midget Vintage Oval Track Class. Driving his self built "Offy-powered" 1956 Kurtis Kraft midget he ran speeds of 131, 134 and then 136.954 mph. Le Claire broke the then record at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2008, and would run the car on various other strips, tracks, and events across the country. He still builds and restores race cars in his Illinois speed shop.
The open face, black peaked Bell helmet has Le Claire’s first name on the right side in red and his #14 on the left in yellow and black. There is also a cartoon image of Le Claire driving one of his midget racers.
This helmet comes from the famous Ron Burton Collection. The helmet is one of 170 helmets which were on display at the famous Union Jack Pub in Speedway (Indianapolis) Indiana. Ron Burton is a famous artist who often traded his paintings with drivers for one of their helmets. We are proud to offer this unique collection of many rare helmets and artwork.
