1984 Riccardo Patrese 3rd Place Italian GP Il Presidente Della Repubblica F1 Trophy
1984 Riccardo Patrese 3rd Place Italian GP Il Presidente Della Repubblica F1 Trophy.
Born in Italy, Ricciardo Patrese raced in Formula One from 1977 to 1993 and with an extensive career, allowing him to become the first Formula One driver to achieve 200 Grand Prix starts. During his career, he collected six race wins in Formula One and was runner-up in the 1992 World Championship to Nigel Mansell.
In 1984, Patrese moved from Brabham to the Alfa Romeo team. The Italian GP was an incredible race from the two Alfas of Riccardo Patrese and Eddie Cheever, closing out the qualifying Top Ten in P9 & P10. Nearing the end of the race on Lap 46, Cheever ran out of fuel: meanwhile, Patrese passed Johansson for third. At the chequered flag, only Lauda and Alboreto were on the lead lap, with Patrese one lap behind Lauda finishing the race on the bottom step of the podium. Patrese's next podium wouldn't come until 3 years later while driving for Motor Racing Developments at the 1987 Mexican GP.
