1970 Le Mans The Movie Solar Productions Continuity Script/Contract With Stopwatch
A one-time chance to acquire an original Solar Productions continuity script from the iconic racing movie 'Le Mans' starring Steve McQueen. The film is widely regarded as being the finest motor racing movie ever produced. Filmed during eight months in 1970, the motion picture depicts a fictional 24 Hours of Le Mans auto race starring McQueen as top-flight Le Mans racing driver Michael Delaney. The movie, which was directed by Lee H. Katzin, features film footage captured during the actual 1970 race held in June of that year. Steve McQueen gave up his salary and share of the gross receipts to help finance the filming of what had become his great obsession. The movie featured many of the famous endurance racing machines of the day including the Gulf-Porsche 917 and Porsche 908/2’s, Ford GT 40’s, and Ferrari 512’s. It also featured cameo appearances of actual ‘Le Mans’ race drivers including Brian Redman, Jackie Ickx, Vic Elford, and Derek Bell just to name a few. This very rare 46-page typewritten document is believed to be one of only a couple still in existence. It has penned alterations and notes and includes a Solar Productions (Steve McQueen’s personally owned production company) contract offer. Also included in the sale is a period-correct working ‘Heuer Trackmaster’ stopwatch similar to one that would have been used at the 1970 Le Mans 24 Hour race, as well as on the film set while the movie was being shot at the famous race track.
